What Should You Wear To Your Bridal Preview

I’ve got a quick blog post for you today- and it’s about what you should wear to your bridal preview (or trial- tomayto, tomahto.)

This is going to be specific to my company, but make sure you ask your makeup artist/hair stylist if these guidelines work for them if you aren’t a Blackthorn Bride.

Makeup

For your makeup preview, you want to make sure you’re arriving to your appointment with a clean, bare face. If you don’t think you’ll have time to wash your face prior (if you’re coming from work, for example) then let me know- I’ll have you arrive about 5 minutes early so I can cleanse your skin before we get started! If you’re coming with a clean face, I recommend moisturizing before, even though I will be removing it during the appointment.

Clothes

Did you know the clothes we wear changes our perception of our makeup? Wearing dark or bold colors often makes the makeup seem more natural in comparison, versus if you had on a white or light colored top. Wearing a black blouse will minimize makeup as a result. Whereas wearing lighter colors will make the makeup appear more accurate in terms of intensity, as it’s not competing with anything. So if you’re wearing a white, ivory, or cream colored dress/jumpsuit- you want to wear a similar color to your preview. Alternatively, if you’re a very bold bride who IS wearing some sort of colored or patterned dress, follow suit!

For makeup: wear a blouse or top in a similar color as your dress

For hair: again, wear a similar color, as it’s good to see how your hair will look against the appropriate back drop. Also keep in mind the cut of your dress. Are you wearing something backless? Strapless? Sweetheart neckline? if you’re wearing a strapless dress, for example, a bandeau, tube top, or thin strapped/tank top blouse would be beneficial. Of course, wear what you have and what you can access the day of your appointment! If you can’t find a similar cut, DON’T STRESS IT AT ALL- it’s just a nice trick that can help create a similar silhouette that you’ll have the day of the wedding.

Hair

For your hair appointment, it’s best to come with your hair detangled and styles removed, if possible. Your stylist will wash and blow you out prior to your appointment! If you have any extensions or hair accessories you wish to try, definitely bring them. If you aren’t sure what you need for your hair, your stylist can give you recommendations at the trial.

When Hair & Makeup Trials aren’t booked together

Its highly recommended to have your hair and makeup previews on the same day, if you can schedule them so. If you aren’t booking Blackthorn Bridal for hair as well, I’d love to coordinate with the stylist you do choose! However, if it’s just not doable to have both previews done at once, then I recommend the following:

Throw your hair in a simple braid, bun, or curls before your makeup appointment. This way, you hair is at least partially ‘done up’ and helps balance the look with hair.

Alternatively, before your hair appointment, make sure to put on a little bit of makeup- my suggestion is whatever your go-to look for special events is.
